SAN DIEGO, August 25, 2006 – Riding the momentum of last year’s inaugural “I Hung with TraceSecurity” event at the 2005 Symitar Educational Conference and Technology Expo, TraceSecurity, a security compliance software firm based in Baton Rouge, La., upped the ante at this year’s Symitar conference by adding “macho-man” super-disco group, the Village People, to the event’s entertainment bill — along with a return visit from American Idol’s William Hung. More than 400 Symitar conference attendees and guests danced and cheered during the event, which took place the evening of Wednesday, August 16, at the San Diego Marriott located downtown.
Hung opened the free show with a rousing version of Elton John’s classic “Rocket Man,” sang a couple of other head-tilting tunes, and then brought down the house with his bread-andbutter hit “She Bangs” by Ricky Martin. The Village People marched onstage in full regalia performing their classic hits “Macho Man,” “In the Navy,” and “YMCA,” among a cornucopia of other disco and contemporary songs. Between performances, attendees were able to partake in a raffle, karaoke contest, and get their photos taken with the musical icons.
“This event really complemented the Symitar conference this year,” says Bruce Foster, Computer Operations Supervisor for First Imperial Credit Union. “Like last year, TraceSecurity has once again taken their event to another level. Hanging out with William Hung and dancing to the Village People, this party was the place to be. We look forward to seeing how they’ll top it next year.”
“After spending all day meeting and discussing technology, trends, and other financial services issues at the conference, it’s great to let loose by watching and dancing to a couple of very unique, fun, and entertaining acts,” says Jim Stickley, CTO for TraceSecurity. “We thoroughly enjoyed having the Village People here. The energy they brought filled the room and the crowd had a great time. And we’ll always welcome back William Hung. I mean, what can you say … he’s one of a kind.”
Other vendors co-sponsoring the show included:
“What a great way to end the day on Wednesday of the conference,” says Kelly Shoemaker, vice president of sales for U.S. Biometrics. “It was a long day. But once the Village People took the stage, it looked like everybody forgot about that and focused on having fun. In addition, it was a great way to network. Prior to the show starting, it was a relaxed atmosphere for some continued conversations from the day’s events at the conference. We can’t wait until next year.”
“This event was such a great idea,” says Jeff Simpler, president of Simpler-Webb. “It was the perfect place to relax and have fun with friends and professional peers. It also served as a great conversation starter during the Technology Expo. There was quite a buzz about the show that day and the following day. It’s good to have your name be associated with a buzz like that. Next year should be just as fun.”
“We’re pleased to be affiliated with TraceSecurity and the products they provide to the financial services industry,” says Hal Tilbury, CEO of Bluepoint Solutions. “So it was our pleasure to help support this very unique event at this year’s Symitar conference. We feel that this is an event that just about everybody will remember and talk about for quite a long time. We look forward to supporting another entertaining show like this again next year.”
“This show was by far the best after-hours event that’s taken place at the Symitar conference — ever,” states Ron Murray, president of CUTEK. “It was easy to see from the audience’s exciting reaction to both William Hung and the Village People. Everybody really had a good time. This one’s going to be tough to top next year, but we’ll be glad to help pull it off.”
