David Cowan

David came to TraceSecurity with 17 years of experience in the United States Intelligence Community, where he collaborated with the US Army, CIA, FBI, NSA, DIA, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence on national security projects focused on information security. He worked on counterterrorism missions in the Signals intelligence (SIGINT), Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT), Human Intelligence (HUMINT), and Digital Network Intelligence (DNI) domains. He has also attended the Eleven Fifty Academy Cybersecurity Bootcamp where he worked in their Cyberbit range, a virtual environment developed to model a real network that can be attacked and defended. David joined TraceSecurity in 2021, bringing his expertise to our risk assessment and IT security audit services. Beginning in 2026, he spearheaded our vCISO program as our first Senior Information Security Engineer. In this role, David develops custom cybersecurity plans and provides consultative guidance to each customer’s unique needs. He currently holds certifications in CompTIA Network+, Security+, Axelos ITIL 4 Foundations, and is pursuing his CISSP. David earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Excelsior College and a Master of Arts in Christian Apologetics from Luther Rice College.
